About the Movie

Based on true events and eye-witness accounts, this movie focuses on two of the most infamous agents of the Holger Danske's resistance group. It is set in Copenhagen, 1944. Germany occupies Denmark. Flame and Citrone had been been proficient at "dealing with" Denmark's Nazi sympathizers, but then they received Allied orders to assassinate the head of the Gestapo. What follows is an even more challenging time, in which they can trust only each other, amidst questioning who to believe. This movie explores realistically the moral dilemma of difficult choices, especially life and death decisions with long-term consequences and the moral complexities of heroism. (Adult audiences only.)

"Flammen og Citronenhas been described as an insightful, realistic, moving, thought-provoking, fact-based movie. We will have an opportunity to hear some remarks by our Club's Board member, Christian Hviid, who is related to Flame and knows about the Danish resistance from that unique perspective and to hear some thoughts by our Club's Board member, Dane Kirk, who has studied the WWII Danish resistance,

"Flame and Citron", has received many accolades, including 9 Award wins and 15 additional nominations, such as wins in the Bodil Awards for Cinematography and Zulu Awards for Best Actor and Best Film, and nominations in other areas. The movie, also, was an Official Selection for the Cannes, Toronto, and Telluride Film Festivals in 2008.

Let's hope that you, too, want to join our Scandi Movie Night group to navigate this treacherous, courageous, unclear journey with Flame and Citron! Our reactions to their challenging journey, full of unexpected turns, will encourage discussion! This very realistic movie immerses us, as viewers, in this very different, important era...!
